The Dayton Flight basketball team is hosting its inaugural season in 2020 after being founded by Brandon Harper, a Dayton, OH native and Central State alumni in 2018. This team is excited to be a part of The Basketball League (TBL), a twelve team professional basketball league drawing talent from all over the world. Dayton, Ohio has a rich history in basketball and continues to be the epicenter of the greatest basketball fans in the country. Dayton Flight is looking to make its mark this season, playing across the country, making Daytonians proud and adding to the storied history of basketball in Dayton.
Sports is in Brandon’s blood. His cousin Ron Harper, who is also a close associate, won five NBA championships with legends: MJ, Pippen, Shaq, and Kobe. His perspective is unique, though more valuable is the networking.
Brandon earned a dual bachelor of science degree in International Business & Management Information Systems at Central State University and is also a graduate of Colonel White High School Class of 2003. Studying under Dr. Lashbrook in Portland, Brandon earned his certification through Sportsmanagement Worldwide. That tutelage led to the management of several clients playing professionally in leagues worldwide (NBA G-LEAGUE, EUROLEAGUE, Qatar, etc).
Brandon (as General Manager) will be saddled with the responsibility of making executive and administrative decisions, with regard to the operations and functionality of the organization.
Coach Gary Armstrong has a lifetime of experience with basketball. He began playing himself as a young boy and continued his basketball career at Dayton Dunbar High School and then received a scholarship to play basketball at the collegiate level. Upon returning to Dayton, OH following college he began his coaching experience which has continued the past 40 years.
He played for and coached the NCR Industrial League team for 12 years, was a coordinator for the National Youth Sports Program for 9 years, coached AAU basketball for 13 years, and has been a high school basketball coach for over 25 years. During this time he has coached and mentored dozens of athletes. Coach Gary Armstrong looks forward to leading the Dayton Flight team to victory this year
Nathan Davis Powell
Nathan Davis Powell is a certified strength Coach going through ISSA International sports science association to obtain his certification. A born native of Dayton, Ohio Coach Powell is a graduate of Dunbar High school that played starting Center for the varsity football team earning all area a, all city honors two years in row and honorable mentioned all state.
In his spare time Coach Nate Is a active personal trainer in the community helping others succeed in their fitness goals and obtaining better physical and mental health. He also has volunteered at his alumni Dunbar High school as strength and conditioning offseason conductor in 2016 and 2017 along side his former Coach , James Lacking and brother Coach Darran Powell.
Coach Nathan Davis Powell’s hard work and dedication was noticed by GM Brandon Harper and earned him a position in strength training for the Dayton Flight.
With his years of experience and great work ethic, his presence and knowledge of the importance of weight training and conditioning will definitely help develop the players and their overall performance on the court .
